We can transport cargo under chain of custody to your specified airline. Q – Does ComSec handle Break-bulk cargo? A – Yes. ComSec is equipped to breakdown pallets, ULD’s and any type of cargo consolidation in order to screen at the required piece level for TSA and Air Carrier Acceptance. Dismantling and reassembling consolidations in a timely and consistent manner is key to making sure your cargo meets the specifications on your paperwork and is able to load without delay when it arrives airside. Q – What type of cargo screening does ComSec perform? A – ComSec uses both X-ray and explosive trace detection (ETD) technology to screen cargo. The X-ray equipment is approved by TSA and allows us to perform the highest quality screening while keeping the integrity of your cargo intact as it moves through the screening process. The ETD equipment is also approved by TSA and give us an added advantage in examining oversize and specialty cargo. Q – Why would I consider an independent screener for my cargo? A – As an Independent CCSF we have made the investment in the infrastructure that can support the detailed screening of your cargo so you don’t have to. Our trained personnel operate the best equipment available in a highly secure facility in order to ensure our customers speedy and professional handling of their freight. Q – How will I know if my cargo has been screened? A – All CCSF’s must initiate Chain-of-custody identifiers for screened cargo. It is also a requirement that each screened shipment be accompanied by a screening certification document that is signed by the CCSF and accepted as screened by the air carrier. You will receive a copy of the document from ComSec included with your shipment documentation. Q – Will I be able to determine what screening method was used? A – Not from the identifier. However, at ComSec the screening method can be identified by signing into your member account online, and viewing the screening details. Q – Do I have to grant consent to search my cargo? A – All shippers are required to consent to cargo screening and search. ComSec includes language in its membership agreement contract that incorporates this requirement. Any non-member that utilizes ComSec for screening will need to submit a consent to search letter on their company letterhead, authorizing ComSec to screen their cargo. Q – What training does ComSec screening personnel receive? A – All individuals involved in cargo screening must meet the specified training and instruction requirements established by TSA for the types of screening technology applied. At ComSec, our screeners are fully trained in all areas of X-ray screening and identification, as well as Explosive Trace detection apparatus approved for use in the CCSP Program. Additionally, they receive classroom and security training in threat assessment and awareness. Q – Knowing that cargo must be screened at piece level, what should I do in advance to eliminate the potential for problems? A – First, make sure each piece has a label. Second, be sure the documentation for the shipment accurately describes the number of individual cartons as well as the number of skids tendered to our facility. We'll take care of the rest. Q – Can our cartage agents deliver consolidations directly to your dock? A – Yes. We can work with you to collect consolidations and assemble them for you. Because every cargo handler has their own specific requirements for this type of freight, we will need to work directly with your air cargo personnel to perfect a process that works best for you. Q – Can I avoid having my freight screened if I only use all cargo freighters? A – There is no way to “avoid” having your freight screened with the air security programs. In addition, it is important to note that cargo transported on all-cargo flights is still subject to the screening requirements for the all-cargo carriers and thus selecting this mode of transport does not “avoid” screening. Q – Can I restrict a specific screening method so my shipments are not x-rayed, physically searched, etc.? A – This may be considered depending on the type of cargo. However, restricting all forms of screening is prohibited. At ComSec, our preferred method of screening is the use of X-Ray technology; however if an alarm is triggered, other means of screening may be used at our discretion to resolve any alarm. You will need to contact us directly to begin the discussion about potentially restricting certain screening methods. Q – Your site indicates you can provide cartage service, will you only pick up from a freight forwarder? A – No. We can assist with pick-up from your customer to you, or from your place to ours. In some cases a cartage fee from your location to our dock can be built into your screening service agreement. We can provide emergency hotshot runs as well. Contact us for a rate sheet and further information.
